New Delhi, 12/10/2012: A minor girl (aged 16
years), has been repeatedly sexually and physically assaulted by her own father
for past 5-6 years in Ghaziabad. Father Ajay Bahadur Singh, AO Noida Control
Room of Uttar Pradesh Police also forced her in to having sexual relationship
with him in past 5-6 months. Having gone through enough finally she gathered courage and spoke
out against this and with help of her mother filed a complaint on October 7th
2012 at the Local Police Station, Kavi Nagar, Ghaziabad and also sent copies of
her complaint to Chief Minister of UP, DGP and SSP, Ghaziabad.
Ajay Bahadur Singh is absconding for last 5 days and is influencing
the investigation using his contacts within the police department. Mother and
daughter duo are financially dependent on him and for that reason remained
quite for a long time. The extended family, whose members are also in police
department are now pressuring the girl and her mother to take back the
complaint. Police has filed complaint against Ajay Bahadur Singh under 376
of IPC which is a non- bailable offence but they have not arrested him so far.
An independent fact- finding team consisting of activists from women’s
rights and human rights groups went and met the girl and her mother at their
home in Sanjay Nagar. The fact finding team
has also filed a complaint on behalf of the victim’s mother at National
Commission for the Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) on 10th October, 2012.
It’s been more than 5 days of the complaint, all the legal
formalities have been completed including recording of the statement of the
girl and her mother but no action has been taken yet by the Police against the
accused father. The medical report proves of rape attempt on the girl. The girl needs Police
Protection that has also not been provided to her. We fear that due to pressure
from the family and some elements within the police there is an attempt at
hushing up the matter. We demand that the absconder be arrested immediately,
girl given protection and adequate arrangements made for their sustenance.
