Congress leaders take bus ride to Surajkund for party session
Congress party graph and their popularity is at lowest levels because of their leadership resorting to liberalized policy issues and paying no heed to social issues with black flags waiting for their welcome has put the party in back foot and their policies to notch fiscal gain in every aspect of life has made the Congress party of riches instead of common man’s party. In this back drop the Top Congress leaders are meeting on Friday in Haryana’s Surajkund to discuss strategy for better coordination with Government to implement promises.Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, Congress President Sonia Gandhi and several top congress leaders are attending a day-long strategy session of the party.
Against the backdrop of opposition’s criticism over decision on FDI, hike in diesel and cap on LPG cylinders, Prime Minister is expected to highlight the reasons for these tough decisions.
He is expected to underscore that these decisions were necessary as the country’s economy is facing testing times on account of international situation and slowdown domestically.
Review of its functioning to overcome limitations of coalition government is high on the agenda.
Leaders including Sonia Gandhi and Rahul travelled in the bus. They were accompanied by senior party leaders Ahmed Patel and Ambika Soni.
Ministers including A K Antony, P Chidambaram, Kapil Sibal, Ghulam Nabi Azad and C P Joshi were also in the same bus. Two buses are taking the Congress top brass to Surajkund.
The day-long “dialogue session” is likely to chalk out the strategy ahead. It may also take a view on the issue of alliances in different states.
Party sources said that the dialogue meeting (Samvad Baithak) will virtually set the agenda for the larger brainstorming at Chintan Shivir, which is likely to be organised in January next year.
The dialogue session comes after the public meeting in here on November 4, which saw Sonia and Rahul strongly backing the economic reform measures initiated by the Prime Minister.
The session will discuss three topics – present political situation, economic challenges and status of implementation of 2009 party manifesto.
