In Assam, 330 villages in Dhemaji district, are still reeling under water. Flood water affected around 1 lakh, 80 thousand people who have taken shelter at high embankments and relief camps. The Health department has deployed medical teams along with necessary medicines. Official sources said that so far, 10 cases of Malaria and Encephalitis have been reported in Dhemaji. AIR Correspondent reports that rescue and relief works have been intensified in the affected areas.

The heavy downpour of the monsoon torrent in the state resulted in at least 122 people killed and nearly two million affected by it. The mighty Brahmaputra river and many of its tributaries have breached their banks after downpours, washing away thousands of homes mostly made of bamboo and straw, as well as roads, bridges and power lines.  Addressing the matter, the prime minister called the calamity one of the worst such disasters to strike recently. The overall flood situation in Assam remained grim with the death toll rising to 122 and large scale destruction of infrastructure, cropland and wildlife reported from different parts of the state. Flood water washed away at least 900 homes and 3 Mini Primary Health Centers .

Surface communication in many places was also disrupted due to the flood in the district. People have taken shelter at high embankments and relief camps. The health department has deployed medical teams along with necessary medicines . Flood water has damaged 2 lakh 55 thousand hectare standing crops .>Authorities have given shelter, food and medicines to thousands of homeless people, and deployed mobile medical teams to prevent the outbreak of disease.

Three of the worst hit areas Majuli Islands, Dhemaji and Tinsukia and have high Christians' population. Other effected areas are Lakimpur, Sadiya, Morigaon, Nalbari, Barpeta, Baragudi, Dhakua-Kana, Sonitpur etc. Speaking to EFI, A. K Goldsmith, Secretary of the Assam Christians Forum said, "The present situation is bad as fresh rains is causing a rise in the Brahmaputra , posing the danger of further damage." The death toll is above 70 now and many people were taken to the existing 600 relief camps, he added
