BJP hits out at Centre on Aircel-Maxis deal

BJP on Friday attacked the Centre on the Aircel-Maxis deal in 2006 and again questioned the role of Home Minister P Chidambaram in it.

"Facts coming out of CBI investigations are shocking. The worst has come out in the open. After investigations by CBI it is clear that the UPA government is a blackmailers' government."

“We have seen that how a company was forced out of business by misusing the power and how one company was allowed to take over by giving undue benefits and in the process receiving Rs 500 crore as kickback. This is is the worst example of corruption we have seen," BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar told.

Attacking Chidambaram, Javadekar said,"...More importantly we want to raise the issue of how the Finance Ministry under Chidambaram gave the FIPB clearance for such a take over, which was clearly a result of misuse of power."

During the Budget Session in May this year, the issue had led to disruptions in Parliament and the government had sought to clear the air over the deal ruling out any wrongdoing by Chidambaram in the grant of FIPB clearance as the Opposition had mounted an attack on his family with fresh charges.
