International Women's Day today



International Women's Day is being observed today across the world to create awareness about anti social practices against women and strengthen their rights. This year the theme is 'Connecting Girls - Inspiring Futures'. Several programmes including screening of films, documentaries and seminars are being organised across the country to mark economic, political and social achievements of women. It aims to raise voices for equal opportunity of women in all walks of life. The day is an occasion to highlight the achievements of women in the society. For the women of the world, the day is an occasion to review how far they have come in their struggle for equality, peace and development. In his message, United Nations General Secretary Ban-Ki-Moon has urged governments and civil societies to commit to gender equality and empowerment of women as a fundamental human right and force for the benefit of all. The 101st anniversary of IWD also calls for women's rights, equality and awareness.
