Amandeep reigns supreme at Oxford
Pune, 4th March 2016: Amandeep Drall carded an even par 72 in the final round to win the sixth leg of the Hero Women’s Professional Golf Tour at the Oxford Golf Resort here on Friday. Amandeep played consistent golf throughout the week and claimed her first title of the season. Smriti Mehra finished runner-up with a total score of 220, followed by Neha Tripathi in third position at 221. The INR 6,00,000 event culminated today.
Amadeep had a shaky start and carded a bogey on the 2nd hole. However, the professional from Panchkula grew in confidence as the day progressed and fired three consecutive birdies on the 8th, 9th and 10th holes. Despite two dropped shots on the 12th and 18th, Amandeep registered a four stokes victory over Smriti Mehra with a total score of 216 after 54 holes.
Kolkata’s Smriti Mehra started impressively, carding three birdies on the 2nd, 4th and 9th holes along with a double bogey on the 7th hole. However, she could not sustain the momentum and carded two bogeys on the 11th and 18th holes along with a double on the 12th. A birdie on the 16th hole helped her finish the round with a score of 2 over 74. Kolkata’s Neha Tripathi carded 1 under 71 to take the third position. She carded a birdie and a bogey a piece on the 5th and 8th holes respectively in her front nine. She added three more birdies to her tally on the 10th, 15th and 17th holes, while dropping shots on the 12th and 18th.
Overseas player Kiran Matharu finished fourth with a total score of 224 after the final round. Her card of 3 over 75 on the day included four bogeys on the 3rd, 7th, 13th and 16th holes with just a lone birdie on the 4th. Rookie Trisha Sunil took the fifth position with a total score of 225. She played a bogey-free front nine with a birdie on the 7th hole. She added another on the 13th hole, but dropped shots on the 11th, 15th and 16th. A double bogey on the 10th meant that she had to settle for a score of 3 over 75 in the final round.
Delhi’s Vani Kapoor and Mehar Atwal finished tied sixth with identical totals of 226 after the final round, followed by Pune’s Shweta Galannde at 227. Jaipur’s Afshan Fatima and Hero Motocorp sponsored Sharmila Nicollet were tied ninth after the final round at 230.
The Tour now moves to the National Capital Region for the seventh leg to be played at the Classic Golf & Country Club, Gurgaon from 15th to 18th March.
