EU announces fresh sanctions against Syria,

European Union has announced fresh sanctions against Syria and blacklisted two more firms doing business with Syria. The EU Ministers met in Brussels and decided to freeze the assets of two firms and impose travel bans and asset freeze on three more people believed to provide funding for the regime.

EU has so far blacklisted 126 firms and imposed sanctions on 41 individuals. This is the 15 th time that EU has imposed sanctions on Syria. The EU Foreign Policy Chief Catherine Marie Ashton expressed serious concern over the ongoing violence and said the sanctions are aimed at the regime and not the civilian population.
