Russia to participate in an informal meeting with Syrian opposition leaders.
Russia has confirmed its participation in an informal meeting of the UN Security Council with members of the Syrian National Coalition, according to Moscow’s mission to the UN. The meeting will be convened by the UK this Friday. Saudi-backed leader Ahmed Jarba - the new chief of the coalition - will lead the delegation, according to Mark Lyall Grant, British envoy to the UN. Grant noted that the key issues for discussion included "ending the violence and preparing for the Geneva II conference, as well as addressing the issues of humanitarian access, human rights, refugees and protection of civilians." So far, attempts to organize a new conference on Syria to establish a political transition plan – which was agreed to in Geneva in June 2012- have not been successful. Media agencies
