French and Italian leaders have reconfirmed that they want Greece to maintain austerity measures and stay in the eurozone.French President Francois Hollande visited Rome on Thursday and held talks with Italian Prime Minister Mario Monti.

After the meeting, Monti expressed hope that Greece will respect its promise of financial reconstruction and stay in the eurozone. Greece will hold a fresh election on Sunday.Hollande said he had told Council President Herman Van Rompuy about his proposals for resolving the European debt crisis.

The proposals consist of respecting economic growth in rebuilding finances, and deepening unity among eurozone members by harmonizing their financial policies.

Hollande also expressed his intention to hold discussions on introducing euro bonds and imposing taxes on financial trading.
