India creating a buffer stock of pulses
India is negotiating with neighbouring Myanmar and other countries towards creating a buffer stock of pulses up to eight lakh tonnes eventually, Commerce Minister Nirmala Sithraman said on Monday.
“The government decided we will initially have 1 lakh tonnes of buffer stock both by procuring from farmers and by importing. Now that buffer stock limit has been enhanced. We will take it gradually, not immediately to 8 lakh tonnes,” Sitharaman told members of the Indian Women’s Press Dorps here.
“So, Myanmar can supply us a few… In all probability we will be having a government-to-government import of pulses from Myanmar… the agreement will be signed soon. Mozambique, Malawi are countries we are having pulses-related talks,” she said.
“As it is pulses can be imported by private traders without restriction. Unfortunately last year, because of speculation there was lot of price rise that was unwarranted,” the minister added.
In this connection, she said India produces 17 lakh tonnes of pulses annually, as against the requirement of 23 lakh tonnes, and the country has been importing pulses for decades.
“We are already in talks with these countries and hope to make government-to-government arrangements so that whenever market prices of pulses rise, the government is able to infuse its stocks in the market to stablise the prices,” she added.

Virginia Raggi elected as Rome’s first ever female mayor
Italy’s eurosceptic anti-establishment 5-Star Movement (M5S) has achieved a breakthrough by winning mayoral elections in Rome and Turin. The win is expected to be a massive blow to Prime Minister Matteo Renzi’s center-left Democratic Party (PD).
M5S candidate Virginia Raggi, a popular 37-year-old lawyer, has managed to take 67 percent of the vote in the Rome mayoral run-off ballot. Raggi has made history by becoming the city’s first woman mayor.
“A new era is beginning with us,” said Raggi. “We’ll work to bring back legality and transparency to the city’s institutions.”
Raggi ran on a platform focused on fighting corruption and cronyism.

Meanwhile, her opponent, the center-left’s Roberto Giachetti, received only 33 percent of the vote. Giachetti conceded defeat before the final results were announced.
“I just called Virginia Raggi and paid my compliments,” he said, as cited by RomaToday. He admitted that it had been a tough election campaign from the very beginning and he promised to “continue to work for Rome” as the part of a “constructive opposition.”
However, the biggest impact to PM Renzi’s standing may be a shocking defeat in his stronghold, Turin, where incumbent Piero Fassino was swept by M5S candidate Chiara Appendino. Appendino managed to get 55 percent of the vote.
Renzi’s PD looks to keep its hold on Italy’s financial capital, Milan, where center-left candidate Giuseppe Sala won with 51.7 percent of the vote, while the Center-Right Coalition’s Stefano Parisi got 48.3 percent.
Around 8.6 million people – one-fifth of the total electorate – were eligible to vote in the second round of Italy’s mayoral races. Second rounds were held in the 126 towns where no candidate received over 50 percent of the vote in the first, which was held on June 5.
M5S has shown stellar results during the Italian mayoral elections. Though founded less than seven years ago, it is currently Italy’s leading opposition party. The movement is more set against corruption and cronyism than austerity, and its key pillars include holding a referendum on euro membership and environmentalism.
M5S members believe that Italy’s current left and right party division is outdated, freely picking and choosing from policies originating on both sides.
Evidence of corruption has boosted the popularity of the Five Star Movement, which is led by comedian Beppe Grillo.
Grillo put the party on the map with a slogan directed at the establishment – “vaffanculo” – which literally means “f**k off.” He has also expressed unwillingness to form any type of coalition government.RT news

Croatian parliament dissolves election soon
Croatian parliament on Monday voted to dissolve itself with 137 deputies in favour, two against and one absent, and an early election should be held in early September.
The decision of dissolution would take effect on July 15, when constitutional deadlines for an early election start running, local media reported.
According to laws, an election must be held no earlier than 30 days and no later than 60 days after parliament was dissolved.
The vote came after the Croatian parliament gave no-confidence to Prime Minister Tihomir Oreskovic and his government last Thursday.
Oreskovic’s cabinet took office in January this year. It consisted of Croatian biggest party, the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) which put forward the no-confidence motion, and a junior MOST party, who supported Oreskovic.
Tusk sees Brexit referendum as ‘warning signal’ for EU
The referendum on Britain’s membership of the EU is due to be held on Thursday.
European Council President Donald Tusk has said Britain’s referendum on EU membership should be seen as a “warning signal” for the rest of the bloc. On Monday, he again urged Britons to stay in the European family, AFP reports.“Whatever the UK vote is… would be foolish to ignore such a warning signal,” Tusk wrote on Twitter, three days before Britons go to the polls. “I appeal to the British citizens: Stay with us,” Tusk tweeted, adding that“together we will cope with future challenges.”
Britain’s departure from the EU might usher in political instability as well as potential fluctuations on financial markets, said Slovak Central Bank Governor Jozef Makuch on Monday.
Makuch noted that the European Central Bank (ECB) is carefully analysing the potential impacts of “Brexit” and is prepared to respond to any such fluctuation. Makuch, a member of the ECB Governing Council, echoed the words of ECB President Mario Draghi who said that the bank is ready for whatever outcome.
According to Draghi, Britain’s potential departure poses several risks.
“What concerns us the most is insecurity on financial markets, where volatility linked to unpropitious prospects for trade and investments might increase. This is where we can act in the best way, as we’ve responded to rises in volatility numerous times,” said Draghi.
Makuch added that EU member states have been working on stepping up European integration for years and this might pose a risk as well.
“There are issues that require unanimity, which might be difficult to achieve in an unstable environment,” stressed Makuch.
Cleveland Cavaliers won the NBA Finals,
Cavaliers win NBA championship as LeBron James has game of his life
Oakland, California: The Cleveland Cavaliers won the NBA Finals, defeating the Golden State Warriors 93-89 in Sunday’s deciding Game 7.
This is the first major sports championship that a Cleveland team has won since 1964.
In perhaps the biggest game of his career, LeBron James had the game of his life.
James was named Finals MVP after scoring 27 points, 11 rebounds and dishing out 11 assists.
.
James returned to his hometown team in 2014 after an acrimonious split in 2010. He joined the Miami Heat with fellow All-Stars Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade, winning two titles there.
He decided to return to the Cavs in 2014 hoping to end the title drought for Cleveland.
“The people of Cleveland deserve this more than any other people I’ve ever seen or met or felt,” Cavs owner Dan Gilbert said. “No group deserves this more. No fan base deserves this more. I’m speechless and proud of everybody.”
When asked why this championship felt different, James kept his answer simple: “I’m home.”
“This is what I came back for,” he said. “It doesn’t feel real.”
LeBron James was unanimously named MVP of the NBA Finals for the third time following the Cleveland Cavaliers’ 93-89 win over the Golden State Warriors in Game 7 on Sunday.
Over the seven-game series, James averaged 29.7 points, 11.3 rebounds and 8.9 assists with an effective field goal percentage of 53.3. He became the third player to record a triple-double in Game 7 of the Finals, joining Jerry West in 1969 and James Worthy in 1988.
Later, Irving compared James to Ludwig van Beethoven: “I’m very thankful that I have a guy like that that’s leading our team that I can continue to learn from. And when my time does come of being able to lead a franchise and see the landscape of how it’s supposed to be composed, I watched Beethoven right now of LeBron
James compose a game. James won consecutive Finals MVPs in 2012 and 2013, when he notched his first two titles with the Miami Heat. He returned to Cleveland as a free agent in July 2014. In addition to delivering the city its first major sports championship since 1964, James led the Cavs in becoming the first team in NBA history to rally from a 3-1 series deficit to win the Finals. James punctuated his historic Finals performance with a dramatic final two minutes of Game 7. With the game tied 89-89, James pursued the reigning Finals MVP, Andre Iguodala, on a Warriors fast break and recorded one of his trademark “chasedown” blocks as he rejected Iguodala’s layup attempt.

– Get your Tickets Now on www.kyazoonga.com and NSCI, Mumbai –
Mumbai, June 20: India loves Kabaddi! Riding on its massive three-season success, Star Sports Pro Kabaddi is all set to hit the mat for its fourth season in the last 24 months. The much awaited Season 4 will witness Puneri Paltan taking on Telugu Titans in Mumbai on June 25th in the league opener match. This will be followed by a clash between former Season 2 champions, U Mumba and the inaugural season champions, Jaipur Pink Panthers. Intense action, excitement and a heavy dose of #AsliPanga is expected to rock the second season of Star Sports Pro Kabaddi in 2016.
The Season 4 auctions for the league have led to extremely well-balanced squads across the eight teams and the competition for the title will only get tougher from here. Following the success of the last three seasons, all teams have been preparing at their respective training camps. Interestingly, this season will see 24 international players from across 12 countries including Iran, Kenya, Japan, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Indonesia, South Korea, United Kingdom and more. The response has been overwhelming and showcases how the sport is being followed across the world.
Janardan Singh Gehlot, President, International Kabaddi Federation, said, “The sport must not only encourage our players, but also give countless millions who follow it a thrill. The past three seasons have proven that the country is ready to not only watch and accept more of Star Sports Pro Kabaddi, but also form loyalties toward players and teams. Season 4 will only reinforce that the Kabaddi eco system will grow stronger as the league progresses.”
Star Sports Pro Kabaddi will reach out to over 114 territories including USA, UK, Sub Saharan Africa, Middle East and North Africa and New Zealand with an expected uptake in viewership as well. Season 3 saw an almost 36% increase in viewership over Season 2 and Season 4 will help Kabaddi rise to being India’s fastest and second most viewed sport.
Nitin Kukreja, CEO, Star Sports, said, “Over the last three years, Star India has led the way in showing that India is ready to be a multi-sport nation. A particularly successful example of this phenomenon is the growth of Kabaddi over the last 20+ months. With the aspirational narrative that the sport was given, each season of Star Sports Pro Kabaddi has grown in stadia as well as on television, in rural as well as in urban audiences. The Season 4 auction unfolded a brand new chapter in Kabaddi with 149 players being drafted. Pro Kabbadi this season promises to be an even bigger opportunity to engage with the sport and its fans!”
The season is all set to kick off in full grandeur, intense excitement and more action.
