GoSports Foundation athlete Kidambi Srikanth wins the India Open Superseries Title

March 29, 2015, New Delhi:  World no. 4 and GoSports Foundation athlete Kidambi Srikanthcontinued his dominance on the men's circuit, winning the India Open Superseries title earlier today. Heading into the finals as the home favourite, young Srikanth played with great determination and poise to clinch the match against Viktor Axelsen of Denmark 18-21, 21-13, 21-12. Taking the court after compatriot Saina Nehwal beat Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand to clinch the women’s title for India, Srikanth sealed a grand double for India with a well-fought victory. The 22-year-old Indian shuttler had beaten the Dane at the Swiss Open earlier this month. With this win, Srikanth became the first Indian player to win the men’s title at the India Open.

Sharing his thoughts about the win, Srikanth said, “It is a great feeling when you are playing in front the home crowd and I am glad that I could win the title for India. Winning the Swiss Open was a great confidence-booster for me and with this win, I plan to carry the momentum into the next two weeks as I compete at the Superseries events in Malaysia and Singapore. I'm grateful to my entire coaching and support staff - Gopi sir for his constant guidance and support, my trainers and physios, and GoSports Foundation for their all-round support."

Flying High - Kidambi Srikanth

Sharing her thoughts on the Foundation’s association with Srikanth, Deepthi Bopaiah, Marketing Director, GoSports Foundation, said, “GoSports Foundation is very proud to have been a part of Srikanth’s sporting journey through the years. We have seen the bright youngster move up from no. 338 to no. 4 in the world rankings. His improvements and successes at major international events are proof of his hard work, talent, and perseverance, and a testament to the GoSports Foundation's Scholarships Programme. Srikanth's success provides us further inspiration as we support more young badminton players and foster an environment of excellence through our Badminton Development Programme.

Hearty congratulations to Kidambi Srikanth on his win, and we hope he continues to write sporting history!
