Voting  began at 7 AM and  will end at 6 PM in most of the constituencies. Polling is being held in all 26 constituencies in Gujarat, 20 in Kerala, 14 each in Maharashtra and Karnataka, 10 in Uttar Pradesh, seven in Chhattisgarh, six in Odisha, five each in Bihar and West Bengal, four in Assam, two in Goa, one each in Jammu and Kashmir, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu and Tripura. Elaborate arrangements have been made to ensure peaceful conduct of polls. 
In Gujarat, 371 candidates are in the fray for 26 Lok Sabha seats while 45 candidates are contesting the by-polls in four assembly seats. Prominent candidates whose fate will be decided today are BJP President Amit Shah, former Union Ministers Mansukh Vasava, Mohan Kundariya and Bharatsinh Solanki. In Maharashtra, 249 candidates, including 19 women are in the fray for 14 Lok Sabha seats.
In Goa, polling for two Lok Sabha constituencies and by-polls to three Assembly seats are taking place today. 12 candidates are in the fray for the two Lok Sabha constituencies, while 18 nominees are contesting for the three Assembly seats. In Kerala, 227 candidates including 23 women are in the fray for 20 Lok Sabha seats. Prominent among them are Congress President Rahul Gandhi, Union Minister KJ Alphonse, Shashi Tharoor, K Rajasekharan, Suresh Gopi and K Surendran. 
In Uttar Pradesh, 10 constituencies going to polls in this phase include Moradabad, Rampur, Sambhal, Firozabad, Mainpuri, Bareilly and Pilibhit. 120 candidates including 14 women are in the fray. Prominent among them are Mulayam Singh Yadav, Santosh Gangwar, Jaya Prada, Varun Gandhi, Shivpal Yadav and Ajam Khan. In Bihar, political fate of 32 candidates, including five women will be decided in this phase. 
In Chhattisgarh, 123 candidates are in the fray for 7 Lok Sabha seats. These constituencies are Raipur, Durg, Bilaspur, Korba, Janjgir-Champa, Surguja and Raigarh. Around 60,000 security personnel, including paramilitary and state forces, have been deployed in the state. In Odisha, voting is progressing peacefully for six Lok Sabha seats and 42 assembly constituencies. 

40 arrested, death toll 310 in Sri Lanka

Sri Lankan Government imposed emergency in the country last night following bomb attacks on churches and hotels. The decision to impose an emergency was taken at a meeting of the National Security Council to ensure public security. The meeting also decided to declare a national day of mourning today.

Meanwhile, 8 Indians are among 31 foreigners killed in the terror attacks. The serial blasts have claimed about 300 lives and injured more than 500 people across the island nation. International police organization (INTERPOL) is deploying a team to Sri Lanka to assist investigations as the focus shifts on probing the foreign connections into the attacks. 
Sri Lankan police have arrested 40 people, including a driver of a van used in one of the suicide bombings that rocked three churches and three hotels in the island nation on Easter Sunday. All of the individuals arrested are Sri Lankan.
The death toll from the spate of attacks has climbed to 310, police reported. Hundreds of others have been injured. In the wake of the assaults, the government has declared a state of emergency and launched a hunt for the attackers, believed to be members of a radical Muslim group called National Thowfeek Jamaath.
Sri Lanka, the situation remained tense in the wake of Sunday’s attacks which killed 310 people including 10 Indian nationals so far. Police have arrested 40 people  mostly belonging to National Towheed Jamaath, believed to have carried out the attacks. Security has been tightened. 
Government schools will remain closed for the week while universities are closed till further notice. Prime Minister Ranil Wickremsinghe and opposition leader Mahinda Rajapaksa will make special statements at the special parliament session convened in the afternoon. Meanwhile, investigations into the attacks are progressing and one Syrian national was taken into custody today for interrogation. 
Sri Lanka has sought help from international agencies for investigation. INTERPOL is deploying a team to identify potential investigative leads and international connections. FBI of United States and Japanese police are among others providing assistance
