Kolkata, February 1, 2017: ‘ The Million Dollar Kick’, a unique talent hunt taking place across India to identify aspirants with the potential to be future NFL (National Football League) kickers. This initiative has been curated by the creators of the Million Dollar Arm, and will scout for football talent from Kolkata, a city which has a rich legacy in the sport and has produced some of the finest players in India.

The Million Dollar Kick try out will be held in Kolkata on February 2nd and 3rd at the Maidan ground, Mohammedan Sporting Club Ltd, Kolkata from 9 am to 4pm. Entry for try outs will be available basis spot registration and there are no registration charges on participation .

The NFL is the biggest sporting league in the world and the Million Dollar Kick will provide an impetus for Indians aged 16 or above to try out for the  opportunity for a trial with top NFL teams to join their roster as an ‘NFL Kicker’. Just like the Million Dollar Arm’s worldwide recognition and success where an unimaginable cross link between cricket and baseball was drawn; Sports Mantra- the promoting company for The Million Dollar Kick are now exploring a similar east meets west mélange between soccer and American football. Our open letter to Trump straight to the White House.

Dear friends,
This Friday we’re taking our open letter to Trump straight to the White House.
In this time when politicians are spreading fear and hatred, we can push back with love and hope to show our leaders that people will light the way forward. Take a few minutes to write a message of hope and resistance from the heart — and we’ll have a giant wall of light displaying them outside President Trump’s window.
This is the most signed campaign in Avaaz history! Almost 5 million people from all over the world, united against hate and bigotry — send a message to the wall now and let’s offer our people light in the darkness:
With hope and love,
Iain, Emma, Risalat, Nick, and the Avaaz team

BRPL 3 Hr Power Cut At 800 MW, Connected Load 10,000 MW

February02, 2017 (C) Ravinder Singh progressindia2015@gmail.com
Jaitley presented scandalous budget yesterday not disclosing any Credible Data in Economic Survey also.
India made huge investment in Power Sector in last 3-5 years next only to China but Power Supply continues to be pathetic, Daily Cuts ranging from 10 seconds to 3-10 hours in Most Capital Intensive BRPL. Can Well Imagine situation in most cities, towns and villages.

Government claims to have ELECTRICIFIED Partly Funded by States just 2% or 11,000 smallest and poorest Villages in 1000 days. Which is nothing compared to Investments in power sector.

At around 3AM power went off when demand was around 800 MW for connected load of 10,000 MW Plus which I noticed it at 3:30AM and made the complaint at 4AM and supply was restored at 6:30AM.
This Executive Summary would give an idea that Peak demand in December2016 was 151,000 MW against installed capacity of 310,000 MW round figures, average of only 122,000 MW [91BU/31/24] and minimum load of less than 100,000 MW.
While there is just 5% growth in Conventional Energy is barely 5% and Renewable by 28% which is most expensive – overall growth in demand was 6.38% or 10,000 MW. India invested in 47,535 MW of High Voltage Transformers in just April-December2016 period which could exceed 65,000 MW for FY17. So when Annual Demand Increases by 5.15% or 10,000 MW India will be adding 65,000 MW of High Voltage Transformers, 28,000 of High Voltage Transmission lines. Many-many times MV & LT Transformers & Transmission Lines.
BRPL is special – BRPL connected load is over 10,000 MW, Peak Load of about 2800 MW, average of 1600 MW and minimum of 600 MW. Almost no Contribution of Costly & Unreliable Renewable, still FREQUENT Power cuts.
Even 10 Second Cut Disrupts Power Supply to Computers, iPADs and all gadgets and consumers had to invest on UPS, Invertors or Generators, Power Conditioners, Emergency Lights etc, Even Power Distribution Switchgear is IMPACTED and 2-3 hour cut means Generators Polluting Air and Spoilage of Perishable Foods in Refrigerators. BRPL not investing in Maintenance Programs and Equipments, Engage Unqualified Staff.

Digital Spine For Learning – EkStep Foundation
Friday, 3 February 2017, 2:30 p.m.
Shankar Maruwada

Can we build a robust and effective digital learning platform for a readily accessible technology, like mobile phones, to improve learning outcomes in India? How can open source content and freely available digital tools help the education and skills ecosystem to develop and deliver learning to the diverse range of learners across languages, geographies, age and proficiency levels? Can we make it possible for learners of all ages to engage in anytime, anywhere learning? Is it possible to create a learning platform that makes it possible for a government school teacher in rural India to make it their own and serve their needs as much as it would the needs of a NGO focused on remedial education or a school system to address learning challenges in their environment?
The EkStep platform supports collaborative creation of interactive learning content for mathematics and language for primary level learners (teaching lessons, worksheets, games and assessments with varying concepts, pedagogies, templates). It enables the sharing of expertise, reusability of content, configuring content to learner’s contexts and will make usage data accessible to anyone (educationists, organisations, teachers, writers, schools, parents).
In this talk, Shankar Maruwada, CEO EkStep Foundation, will explore what it means to build a Digital Spine for education infrastructure that will pivot efforts to increase access to learning opportunities by amplifying ecosystem capabilities.
