Modi – Naidu must answer, whose and at what cost capital AP capital city being built?
NAPM Concludes its three day National Chintan Shivir in Hyderabad, Vows to Defeat Corporate Loot and Communal Forces

Hyderabad | 19th October, 2015: Prime Minister Narendra Modi with Chandrababu Naidu, the CM of Andhra Pradesh are to inaugurate the capital city on 22nd of October, spending Rs. 300 crores. At whose cost and what cost, this endeavor is pushed and still being imposed, is a big question. The capital is a game of the capitalists, including real estate developers who are in nexus with the politicians.  It being at the cost of the best of agriculture and horticulture which would bring in severe destruction of livelihood and contribute to food insecurity.
The Government of Andhra Pradesh decided to establish a green field capital city between Vijayawada and Guntur cities, in a 122 sq kilometre area by acquiring prime agricultural land on the bank of river Krishna. The Government has also planned to develop the capital region in a 7068 sq. kilometres area. The capital city is promised and claimed to be developed as a liveable, environmentally sustainable and people’s capital.
The core capital region alone will displace around 90,000 marginal farmers, lease holders, agricultural workers, fisher people and other unorganised labour classes. The latter compose 80% of the population in the area. While the land lords will be getting residential plots, a commercial plot and yearly compensation for every acre surrendered, the landless will be left with a paltry Rs. 2500/- per month as ‘Pension’. Our enquiries have shown that a large number of landless families have not been included in the enumeration of affected families. Tenements in large numbers  have lost their means of livelihood. Their children are dropping out of colleges because their parents can no more afford to pay for their education.
If Amaravati is to be a People’s Capital as the Government claims it to be, then everyone, especially the unorganised working classes should have a right to the City as well as development both. They have a right to land, housing and other resources just like the landlords so that they are able to live with dignity and earn their livelihood in the new capital.
The paltry Rs.2500/- as Pension promised for the landless working classes will make them ‘beggars’. We demand that the land less working class families who are threatened to be deprived of their livelihood are paid Rs. 15000/- per month for the next ten years, with an annual increment of 10 per cent. Every family unit of the landless affected by the new capital must be included for such compensation with the government taking adequate care so that no one is excluded from such benefit.
NAPM questions this paradigm of development, Modi-Naidu model of urbanisation and undemocratic, unsustainable development planning. We will support the farmers and labourers who are refusing to give land and those who are deprived and destitute citizens.
NAPM concluded its three day Chintan Baithak at Hyderabad attended by its National Conveners and Senior Activists from 15 States. The meeting expressed deep concerns at the ongoing situation in the country and formulated a number of programmes in coming months and passed the following resolutions.
November 19 – 20 : Bhumi Adhikaar Andolan Coordination Committee Meeting, New Delhi
December 6 – 7 : National Convention and Public Hearing on Communal Violence and Religious Fundamentalism
January 10, 2016 : Samajwadi Samagam National Committee Meeting, Delhi
January 11 : Conference on “Land Rights, Community Control of Natural Resources and Development”, Chhindwara, Madhya Pradesh
Resolution Supporting Dissenting Writers and Performers
National Alliance of People’s Movements [NAPM] salutes the resilient spirit of all the writers and performers who returned the national awards, protesting against the shrinking space for difference of opinion, dissent which is happening on a daily basis directly through the different groups associated with those in power. It is also a statement to the institutions created, which were created to perform functions responding to the conscience to society.  NAPM reiterates the demands that the government must reassure the community of writers and artists that its ministers are tolerant of diverse views. Also, it must ensure that the investigations into the murders of M M Kalburgi, Narendra Dabholkar and Govind Pansare are conducted fairly and expediently and their killers are brought to justice.
We express our discontent in the strongest words especially about the inadequate response by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as well as the irresponsible statements made by the other Ministers in the Cabinet ridiculing the protests against this inaction from various quarters.  In a diverse country, imposition of irrational beliefs of vested interests in a dominant community on individuals and communities is definitely against the spirit of the values and the freedom enshrined in the Constitution. The State is obliged to ensure the spirit and the values guaranteed by the Constitution in the day-to-day lives of the people rather than subverting the spirit of the Constitution itself by violating the basic freedom of communities daily.
This is a timely reminder by the fraternity once again standing upto the power stating ‘What right do you have to remain silent’?

Journey through Welsh history with new high-tech travel map

Mumbai, 19th October 2015: Visitors to Wales will be able to experience Welsh history like never before this autumn thanks to the Wales History Maplaunched recently (12 October) by the Welsh Government’s Historic Environment Service (Cadw).
For the first time history enthusiasts will be able to explore sites all over Wales based on their favourite period in Welsh history – from the legacy of the Princes of Gwynedd to the story of Owain Glyndŵr.
Created as part of an Escape to Wales autumn campaign, the Wales History Map is an interactive online resource which allows users to pinpoint over fifty of Wales’s best historic sites, owned or cared for by various partners from within the heritage sector, by separating them into 12 different themes of Welsh history.
The Escape to Wales campaign aims to attract keen walkers and cultural explorers to all Welsh historic sites during the shoulder season.
In addition to the map, a series of audio guides have been released telling the stories of four of Wales’s best loved ‘heroes and heroines’. FromBranwen ferch Llŷrto Gwenllian, and Llywelyn the Great to Sidney Gilchrist Thomas, the audio guides each link to a specific theme on the Wales History Map, and can be downloaded and listened to while exploring sites.
And to help visitors get in the mood for historic adventures, the Welsh Government has collaborated with Trac Cymru (Music Traditions Wales) to create the Ultimate Welsh Road Trip Soundtrack.
Featuring songs from the likes of Welsh songstress Duffy and award-winning folk group 9Bach, the soundtrack, available on the Cadw website, includes a playlist of songs by Welsh artists to complement the historic themes.
The Wales History Map is the latest product of the Welsh Government’s Pan-Wales Interpretation Plan, which aims to bring Wales’s heritage to life for locals and visitors to explore and enjoy, while maximising the economic value of heritage tourism.
Around 42 million* British tourism visits were made to destinations in Wales during the first six months of 2015, and it is hoped that the new online resource will inspire more to visit heritage sites across Wales during 2015 and 2016.
Ken Skates AM, Deputy Minister for Culture, Sport and Tourism, said: “We’re always looking for new and innovative ways of making Wales’s heritage more accessible and engaging for visitors, and the Wales History Map succeeds in doing that.
“By working closely with heritage partners, sites from across Wales have been linked together based on common themes. This encourages visitors to learn about the fascinating stories which make up Wales’s history, and visit sites associated with the stories – regardless of who owns or cares for them.
“Working with partners on a pan-Wales approach significantly improves the visitor experience, with tourists and locals given the opportunity to learn and engage with characters and stories from Wales’s past in a coherent and consistent way. The additional resources such as audio guides and soundtrack will also add to the overall experience, and will hopefully attract more visitors to Welsh heritage sites during the autumn.”

Leading the field at the Rs. 30 lakh event is the 2011 Rolex Player of the Year Chiragh Kumar. Chiragh finished tied second along with Anirban Lahiri at the Venetian Macau Open on Sunday and thus secured his card for the 2016 Asian Tour season. It was the Delhi golfer’s best finish on the Asian Tour since his second place at the Indian Open 2011. With Chiragh getting back to form, he is likely to be one of the top contenders this week.
Seasoned professionals Mukesh Kumar of Mhow and Delhi’s Shamim Khan will bring all their experience to the fore in order to conquer the challenging layout of the Oxford Golf Resort. Mukesh (2008 Rolex Rankings champion) and Shamim (2012 Rolex Rankings champion), both winners in the 2015 season, are currently ranked second and third in the Rolex Rankings. They are the highest ranked players in the field this week and strong contenders for the title. Interestingly, both players have registered wins in Pune in the past.
Mukesh, a winner of more than 120 titles in India, said, “The Oxford Golf Resort compares to some of the top courses in Asia due to its phenomenal setting in the Sahyadri Hills and the immaculate playing conditions. The greens will be tough to read this week as a result of the hilly setting. I expect the winning score to be between 10 and 15 under.”
Bangaloreans Khalin Joshi and Udayan Mane and Gurgaon’s Shubhankar Sharma, all tournament winners on the PGTI, are some of the promising youngsters playing this week. Rookie Udayan Mane won in Jaipur earlier this month, in what was only the seventh professional event of his career. Mane, for whom Pune is a second home as his parents reside here, is currently seventh in the Rolex Rankings.
Khalin Joshi has posted a win and four other top-10s in the season so far to be placed fifth in the money rankings. Shubhankar Sharma, who has the distinction of being the youngest winner on the PGTI at age 17, is also inside the top-10 of the rankings as he currently occupies 10th place.
Mane said, “The western region of the country needs a lot of attention for the purpose of growing the sport of golf as there are currently very few professionals emerging from this part. The Western India Oxford Masters is therefore a step in the right direction. It’s a great joint initiative of the Oxford Golf Resort and PGTI.”
Anil Seolekar, Chairman, Oxford Group, said, “We conceptualized the Western India Oxford Masters in order to promote golf in the western region of the country. Our vision is to take golf to the grassroots and get more people involved in the sport so that we can have a large talent pool in the coming years just like the northern and southern regions.”
The international challenge will be led by the likes of Sri Lankans Anura Rohana, N Thangaraja and K Prabagaran, Australian Kunal Bhasin and Bangladeshi Md Zamal Hossain Mollah. While Rohana, Thangaraja, Bhasin & Zamal are all multiple winners on the PGTI, Prabagaran has one title under his belt.
The host city of Pune will be represented by the likes of Gurki Shergill (winner of 8th TATA Open 2009), Rajiv Niranjan Datar, Aditya Bhandarkar, Sameer M Shaikh, Pravin Pathare, Dinesh Kahar, Moinuddin Malak, Saurabh Bhaduri, Dinesh Raghuvanshi, Shubham Jindal and Sumedh Gangal. The leading talent from neighbouring Mumbai is Anil Bajrang Mane, who finished inside the top-50 of the rankings last year.
