Ferocious Khyber to wreak havoc in Jodha Akbar!

21072014

Entering as ‘Khyber’, Ketan will be seen playing the character of a primitive, blood-thirsty cave man in Zee TV’s top-rated historical

The National level bodybuilding champion Ketan Mangesh Karande will soon be seen entering Zee TV’s Jodha Akbar. Owing to his massive built, Ketan will be playing the character of a fairly primitive, mountain man who has been trained by the evil Mahachuchak and is a pawn in her hands to be used at the right time against Akbar.

A human animal who has lived in a cave all his life, Khyber has lived in isolation all through. Merciless and heartless, he smells human blood and kills people. Talking about his character, Ketan said, “The role that I will be playing is quite different from anything I have played in the past. Being a merciless half human and half animal, Khyber is known to be ruthless in his code of conduct. It was quite difficult for me to relate with the character, however I am sure that the audience will love watching me in this new avatar and love my track in the show.” Talking about his preparation to play the role, Ketan said, “While it was because of my physique that I bagged the role, what was more difficult was to adapt to Khyber’s body language. Being ferocious at all times, I underwent a special training to adapt to those expressions and learn the body language.”

With the current track of the show focusing on Jodha’s pregnancy, we will see Khyber entering the show next week only to create upheaval in Jalal and Jodha’s paradise. While he kidnaps Jodha and keeps her in his cave, Jalal takes it up on him to save Jodha and their child by fighting Khyber. Only time will tell whether Jalal be able to save Jodha from Khyber’s clutches.

We hope Ketan’s hard work in essaying the role and the track wins him accolades and is enjoyed by the audience as much as Ketan has preparing for it!

Do not miss, Jodha Akbar, Every Monday – Friday at 8 PM, Only on Zee TV!

Press Release
Delhi-based think tank Centre for Civil Society (CCS) launched Poonjiwad ki Naitikta, the Hindi edition of The Morality of Capitalism, in New Delhi on Monday, 21 July 2014.
The book was officially launched by Dr Tom G Palmer, Vice President for International Programs at the Atlas Economic Research Foundation, and General Director of the Atlas Global Initiative for Free Trade, Peace, and Prosperity. Tom spoke extensively on the need for distinguishing free-market capitalism from crony capitalism, where the state has power to grant certain favours to businesses in the form of monopolies or subsidies, and create entry barriers for others. This, he emphasised, is the opposite of a free-market economy, where everyone is free to enter and exit. There is a strong need to eliminate cronyism – and the cure for this, he stated, was free markets. A key point made by Palmer was also that the greatest contributor to world peace, is trade. The greater the freedom and value of trade between two countries, the lesser the degree of aggression between them.
On The Morality of Capitalism, Tom said that the book offers a variety of perspectives on the issue of capitalism from different countries and contexts. Adding to this, Avinash Chandra, Editor of the Hindi liberal web portal www.Azadi.me and translator of the Hindi edition of the book, stated that the series of essays is key in breaking the pre-conceptions and prejudices people have about capitalism and their immediate association of capitalism with cronyism.
This edition of the book includes essays by leading intellectuals, academicians and economists – Gurcharan Das, Swaminathan Aiyar, Jagdish Bhagwati and Parth J Shah. The book is a must-read, especially in the Indian context. As Gurcharan Das points out in the introduction, although two decades have passed since with the reforms of 1991 when Indians began their love affair with free markets, capitalism is still trying to find a comfortable home in India. Like most people, Indians believe that the market is efficient but not moral. The Morality of Capitalism brings together some of the best-thinking individuals on the ethical dimension of markets. They offer an insight into capitalism, not only from a moral philosophy point of view, but also draw on economics, logic, history, literature, and other disciplines. The Hindi translation joins a long list of translations, including in Chinese, Arabic, Persian, Russian, Spanish, Azerbaijani, Armenian, Finnish and French, among others.

Magic Bus, founded by Englishman Matthew Spacie and based in Mumbai, aims to take children out of poverty through a programme of mentoring and coaching. Since 2001, the Magic Bus programme has grown to embrace over 250,000 children in 18 states each week and Spacie’s ambition now is to reach out to one million children by 2017.

About the Laureus Pavilion

The Laureus Pavilion is a covered activity area that Magic Bus has built inside its 25-acre learning center campus. The center itself is an outdoor learning and development space that provides facilitated experiences in a wide variety of activities ranging from rope climbing to cycling and much more.

“The Pavilion helps Magic Bus deliver activities during the Summer and Monsoon seasons, enabling participants to continue accessing sports activities.” says Rob Thomas, Head of the centre. “It can accommodate people of different ages and abilities and provides the perfect living space for group activities.”
The Laureus Pavilion was built by premier architectural firm Architect Brio, who describe the Pavilion as “…Partly a building, partly a challenge course, the Laureus sponsored Learning Pavilion, located at the Magic Bus Centre for Experiential Learning, is an interactive building used as a gathering space and play area for underprivileged children while they are on their weekend camps.”

About the BPT Community

Magic Bus has also been the longest running NGO working with the BPT community since 2003. They are primarily running sports sessions here for the underprivileged children from the local schools. Their voluntary activities have improved health awareness, increased participation from girls and increased attendance at school among other impact led results.

NATIONAL COALITION FORSTRENGTHENING SCs & STs (PREVENTION OF ATROCITITES) ACT

21072014
NATIONAL COALITION FORSTRENGTHENING
SCs & STs (PREVENTION OF ATROCITITES) ACT AND ITS IMPLEMENTATION

We, on behalf of National Coalition for Strengthening the POA Act and Its Implementation (NCSPA), accounting for more than 400 Dalit and Adivasi organizations from all over the country, express the deep disappointment among Dalits and Adivasis on the long and continuing delay in legislating the amendments to SCs and STs (PoA) Act 1989.  We thank Shri Thaawar Chand Gehlot, Hon’ble Minister for Social Justice & Empowerment (MSJE) for introducing SCs and STs (PoA) Act 1989 amendment Bill 2014 in Lok Sabha on 17. 07. 2014 to replace the SCs and STs (PoA) Ordinance 2014, which had been promulgated by the President on 04.03.2014.

With due respect to the jurisdiction and powers of the Speaker and Parliament, we and SCs and STs are disappointed by the Bill being referred to the Standing Committee.

This comes over and above the inordinate delay during the period of the previous Government. After elaborate and detailed countrywide consultations, the Coalition sent its draft to Ministry of SJ&E on 19. 11. 2011.  Government went through consultations with States, other Ministries and prepared the Government Bill, taking much more time than necessary, and at last tabled the Bill in Lok Sabha on 6. 12.2013. The Government disappointed the SCs and STs by not moving for debate and vote in the Winter Session 2013 in both the Houses in spite of our best efforts, which could only secure the promulgation of the Ordinance on 04.03.2014.

We were expecting that with the introduction of the Government’s Bill in the new Lok Sabha on 17. 07. 2014, the Bill would be smoothly and automatically passed in the two Houses within the time-limit laid down in the Constitution, since it had been scrutinized thoroughly at all levels.  We are concerned that this will result in further lapse of time.  Meanwhile Atrocities like social boycott, economic boycott, mass arson, rapes, murders and other Atrocities are continuing to be perpetrated on the long-suffering Dalits and Adivasis in different parts of the country.

We therefore appeal, with due respect ––

(a)           To the Hon’ble Speaker, to consider calling back her decision to refer the Bill to the Standing Committee and permit the Minister to move the Bill in the Lok Sabha for debate and vote and thereafter immediately in the Rajya Sabha and help ensure the Bill is passed within the Constitutional time-limit.

(b)          To the leading Government Party, to intervene and help in this and to other Parties to cooperate in this.

(c)           To the Hon’ble Speaker, in case the course at (a) is not possible, to consider setting an early time-limit for the Standing Committee for its Report.

(a)           To the Hon’ble Members of the Standing Committee to consider expeditiously clearing the Bill, giving us an opportunity to appear before them, and furnish its Report to the Hon’ble speaker at the earliest.

(b)          To the Hon’ble Minister and Hon’ble Prime Minister to move for re-issue of the Ordinance in case the course at (a) is not possible and the Standing Committee process will take time beyond the period of the validity of the existing Ordinance.

(c)           To the Hon’ble Minister, to consider coordinating the above measures.

(d)          To the Hon’ble Prime Minister,  to help in expediting the whole processsecure the early enactment of the Bill, with the decisiveness characteristic of him, keeping in view the fact that an unprecedentedly  large numbers of SCs and STs have placed their hope in him on account of his radical pronouncements regarding Dalits and Adivasis during his election campaigns and the leading Government party’s manifesto commitment that it will “accord highest priority for ensuring their security especially the prevention of atrocities against SCs & STs”.
