Delhi govt slashes power tariff by 50% for up to 400 units

Feb 25

The Delhi government has slashed power tariff by 50 per cent for consumption up to 400 units and has also decided to give 20 thousand litres of water free of cost to every household per month. The decision on both the schemes was taken today, at a Cabinet meeting presided over by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

The free water scheme and power subsidy will come into effect from this Sunday. Over 90 per cent households will be benefited by the reduction in the power tariff. Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said, government will bear the extra burden of 70 crore rupees per month. Mr Sisodia said the subsidy on power will only be reviewed after the CAG submits its report on the finances of the discoms.

About 18 lakh families having functional water metres will enjoy the free water facility. Later, in a tweet, Mr Kejriwal said, his party has delivered on two of its promises. 50 per cent subsidy and free-water schemes were also launched during AAP's first government, last year, but were discontinued after it quit.
