Sunday 27 May 2012

Friend,

It is my pleasure to invite you to the release of the green rating of iron and steel sector at 5 pm, June 4th, 2012 at the multipurpose hall of IIC, 40, Max Mueller Marg, Lodi Estate, New Delhi.  Dr Montek Singh Alhuwalia, deputy chairman of the Planning Commission and Ms Jayanthi Natarajan, minister of state, Environment and Forests, will release the rating and give away the awards.

Green Rating Project (GRP) is India’s only public disclosure project in which environmental performance of companies within a sector is assessed and publicly released. So far we have rated four key industrial sectors – paper, automobile, chlor-alkali and cement. Iron and steel is the fifth sector to be rated by GRP.

The process followed by GRP is rigorous, independent and participatory. Companies share data with us which is reviewed and verified by the GRP team and a technical panel of experts. GRP team also inspects each plant and meet stakeholders to gather their perception about the environment and social performance of companies. Companies are then rated on more than 100 parameters.

Our rating of steel sector includes all large integrated iron and steel plants and has taken us close to two years to complete. We are now ready to release the iron and steel sector rating, which is fascinating.

We look forward to seeing you. If you need any help please contact my colleague Kanchan Kumar Agrawal (kanchan@cseindia.org).

Best wishes,
Yours cordially,
Chandra Bhushan
Deputy Director General, CSE
